SLLGC and London Men's Captains Match Report

Our first match of the season was played with London Men’s Captains.
Chobham Golf Club gave us a warm welcome; in more ways than one! We fueled up with Bacon rolls, Tea and Coffee and set off in the sunshine.
The lakes filled with water lilies looked very pretty and the beautiful parkland course provided a challenging and enjoyable test of our skills on a very hot afternoon.
Each side fielded 12 players, and each team comprised 2 men and 2 women – playing best 2 out of 4 and had to include a man’s score and a woman’s score.
The winning team comprised Gill Spragg, Lesley Carter, Roy Newrick and Nigel Williams with 92 points!
An excellent 2 course meal was enjoyed by everyone. A big thank you to all the staff at Chobham for looking after us so well.
Thank you to all the ladies who played and London men for their good company and golf. As the players were already talking about our 2027 fixture it is clear that this is a very popular annual event; long may it continue.

​SLLGC and Berkshire Captains Match Report
20th July 2026
Our second match of the season was played at East Berkshire Golf Club in Crowthorne, who made us very welcome. We played Berkshire Captains who comprised 11 men and 1 woman – all Past Club Captains.
Meeting late morning for Tea/Coffee and Bacon rolls, we ran through the format that we played with London Men’s Captains. Playing best 2 of 4, with a score from each team, provided a twist to make it interesting! Once again, we had 12 players on each side, which is a good turnout for a friendly match.
It was so lovely to receive lots of compliments about the course, staff and food yesterday, especially as this is my home club. The fast-undulating greens challenged us, and the heather and stream meant we needed to plot our way round. Once again, the sun shone and it did get a bit hot over the last few holes.
The winning team scored an amazing 96 points!! Comprising Caroline Cope, our Captain, Lena Wang and Berks Captain’s Kieran Oatley and Gillian Heap.
A BIG THANK to everyone that played. I think Catherine Wilkins had the longest journey, 2 hours each way.

SLLGC and Berkshire Lady Captains Match Report
6th August 2026

On Thursday, 6th August we played our third and final match of the season against Berkshire Lady Captains at Royal Ascot Golf Club. We had 6 matches playing four ball betterball matchplay. Despite our best efforts we lost 4 ½ to 1 ½ with some very close games.
As our Captain’s home county, several of the ladies knew each other and the atmosphere was very cheerful and chatty throughout! Royal Ascot Golf Club were super hosts and very attentive. The food was excellent and the options for those with dietary needs were well looked after too.
Although the day was hot, AGAIN; the breeze made it bearable, and everybody got round in one piece.
Thank you to all the ladies who have played and, in some cases, travelled some distance to represent SLLGC, including reserves that stepped in later.
Thank you also to all the ladies that put their names forward for our friendly matches, meaning that I never had to hunt around for players.
